A player’s effectiveness is directly related to his ability to be right there, doing that thing, in the moment. All the preparation he may have put into the game — all the game plans, analysis of movies, etc. — is no good if he can’t put it into action when game time comes. He can’t be worrying about the past or the future or the crowd or some other extraneous event. He must be able to respond in the here and now.
The universal body of reality is so subtle that you do not hear it when you deliberately listen for it, and you do not see it when you look at it. As for the pure knowledge that has no teacher, how can it be attained by thought or study?
There are various Ways. There is the way of salvation by the law of Buddha, the Way of Confucius governing the Way of learning, the Way of healing as a doctor, as a poet teaching the Way of wake, tea, archery, and many arts and skills. Each man practices as he feels inclined.
